A process is defined
as a sequence of steps which adds value by producing required outputs from a
variety of inputs. So, it is the job of all team in the unit to practice all
operations while recognizing how they identify, manage, review and improve
processes. Successful Units usually have activities that concern with the
following areas to improve the performance:

How processes as key to the success of the Unit are identified. Usually the
unit have a list of its key processes, especially those processes, which have a
significant impact on results . They could include:

Management of suppliers . |

Provision of services received and supplies. |
 |
Reception of orders. |
 |
Design . |
 |
Budgeting and planning. |
 |
Delivery of service and related materials. |
 |
New product and service development . |
 |
Management of regulatory issues. |
 |
Invoicing and collection of debts. |
 |
Management of environmental issues. |
 |
That through:
- Defines key processes
- Identifies key processes
- Evaluates the impact of key processes on the Unit. |

2.
How processes are systematically managed focusing on the following:

Establishing process ownership and process management |
 |
Establishing and monitoring standards of operation |
 |
Using performance measures in process management |
 |
Applying systems standards, such as quality systems, environmental
systems, health and safety systems, in process management. |
 |
Resolving interface issues inside the Unit and with external partners. |

3.
How processes are reviewed and targets set for improvement. The work team
should address the following areas:
 |
Identifies and prioritizes methods of improvement, both incremental
and breakthrough.

Uses information from employees, customers, suppliers, other
stakeholders, competitors and society, and data form benchmarking in setting
standards of operation, priorities and targets for improvement |
 |
Relates current performance measurements and targets for
improvement to past achievement
|
 |
Identifies and agrees challenging performance targets (which will
be tracked in criteria 6 to 9) to support policy and strategy. |

4.
How processes are improved using innovation and creativity. Areas to address
include:

Bringing to bear the creative talents of the people in incremental
and breakthrough improvements |
 |
Discovering and using new principles of design, technology and
operating philosophies |

Changing the organizational structures to encourage innovation and creativity |
| |
Encouraging continuous learning by everyone in the Unit |
| |
Using feedback from customers, suppliers and other stakeholders to stimulate
innovation and creativity in process management. |

5.
How processes are changed and the benefits evaluated. The management here will:

Agrees appropriate methods of implementing change
|
 |
Pilots and controls the implementation of new or changed processes |
 |
Communicates process changes
|
 |
Trains people prior to implementation |
 |
Reviews process changes to ensure predicted results are achieved. |
